THE SPORTS TO-DAY. :The visiting competitors to the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club's meeting, which commences to-day oh the club's grounds, Otipua road, arrived by express from Christchurch yesterday, and were met by the secretary and several members of the local elub. The Christchurch team consists oil Messrs Anderson, Pentecost, Simpson, Rich, Flewellon, Cardale, ; Ap-~ pleyard and their enthusiastic trainer, ,Alf, Bhodes. They are all in excellent form,' aoad should give aj good", account of themselves during the progress, of. the meeting, both by winning a large number of 'the events and by most probably breaking either standard times or even records, as the track is reported to be in capital order. The club's committee is exceedingly pleased with the entries so far received for the boys' races on the second day, 12 entries for the 200 yards, and 13 for the 150 yards, so far having come to hand, and as the entries for" those close on the ground they may be. further augmented. Five teams have also entered for the affiliated schools' relay race; two from the' High School, and one each from the Marist Btos., Main School arid "Waimataitai. This should prove highly interesting, and though to-day's entries are small, keen finishes are expected, and Thursday's racing should prove undoubtedly as exciting as any the club have had' during their 31 meetings. , The Garrison-Band are., to be present, and will beneficially aid thepleasant outing. Mr Budd is to have an afternoon "tea-marquee on the" ground, to which all visitors.to the sports will be made welcome. * ~
