Per Press Association. WAIHI, May 1. At the Conciliation Board, it was stated that Humphreys was dismissed from the Jubilee mine for giving evidence before the Board- The Board decided to ask the manager of the mine to explain. Robinson, a battery hand, condemned Sunday work, and spoke of the evils of battery dust.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. In the bootmaking dispute, the parties have come to a mutual agreement on all points, except the rough work department, the minimum wage, and the number of working hours per week. The case for the Union has closed. In the bootmakers' dispute at the Ai bitration Court to-day, several witnesses "w ere examined on the employers' side. Three points of difference will be submitted to the Court. The first is whether the rough stuff department can be included in the award ; the secc.'.d > in regard to wages, and the third the hoiirs per week. In regard to the rough xtull department, the masters agreed to include under the heading " skilled artisans" those engaged in sole cutting, but not in other branches of the department. The employers say thev cannot pay a minimum wage of £2 10s" as asked for. and that the shortening of the hours would injure the industry in the colony. It i 3 expected that the case will be concluded about noon to-morrow. The ironmoulders' dispute will be taken next. DUNEDUST, May 1. The industrial dispute between the Bakers and Pastry Cooks' Union and master bakers' of Southland was before the Conciliation Board to-day. What is sought
by the Union is that the conditions of trade accepted by the employers in Dunedin and embodied in the industrial agreement, should be made to apply throughout Southland. None of the employers attended, nor were they represented." It was stated that some) were quite willing to sign the agreement. The recommendation of the Board will be made in a day or two.
