Two thoroughbreds died on the passage by the Elingamite during a gale, namely Kathleen by Childe Harold— Compliment, and the pony Brown Mantle, owned by Mr G. S. Badge. Huoa Leigh, the trotter, walked from the steamer only this morning to the stable. His back is ricked. Mr .Fitzgerald, his owner, was bringing over two brothers to compete at the Auckland Trotting summer meeting. The Waihi Silverton Company crushed 650 tons for £951 worth of gold. NEW PLYMOUTH, December 12. Michael O'Mera, aged 62, a settler at Okato, was killed on Saturday night by being thrown from his horse. WELLINGTON. December 12. Burglars entered the Imperial Hotpl, Cuba street, yesterday morning ; broke open the safe, and stole £50 m cash and small articles worth about £5. Messrs Pagan and Barker, two officers of the Queensland Railway Department, are at present on an official visit to New Zealand. Whilst m Wellington they made full enquiries as to the system oi workshops management and maintenance. They paid a visit to the Rimutaka incline to-day and left for the south this evening. They were staying m the Royal Oak Hotel when the fire occurred, and lost a lot of their personal effects. OAMARU, December 12. The youngest son of Mr J. K. Craig, aged nine years, was accidentally drowned by falling into a creek on hit way to Sunday school. At the annual meeting of the Oamart Woollen Factory Company to night, « dividend o}d per cent, for the half-yeai (making 8 per cent* for the year) was declared, and £885 15s Id carried forward to next year. The weather continues very dry, anc the crops and pasturage are being affected but not to any great extent ai yet. DUNEDIN, December 12. At the inquest on the body of E. L Jooes, who fell from a ladder m th( Tramway Company's stables, and m jured his head, a verdict of accidental death was returned. The inquest on the body oftheyoutt Thomson, who was killed by being rur over by the Mornington tramcar, wai not concluded.
