The National Federation of Miners of Great Britain is demanding a|lo per cent, increase of wages for miners employed in the mines in England. Per Press Association. ■V*. ELLINGTON, April 29. In the action* brought by the Sailors' Union. against Veitch and Allan for breaches of the conciliation award, one count waa abandoned and another could not be maintained ; on the third the Stipendiary Magistrate gave judgment for plaintiff for ls aud costs, as it was a case of general public interest. At a meeting of the Wellington branch of the Workers' Union a resolution was passed tbat the Union strongly opposes the idea of an independent labour party being set up in the House of Representatives, as in their opinion no satisfactory reason has been shown by those favouring it for deserting the Liberal party who have ably assisted them by placing on the Statute Book so many measures for the benefit of the labour party and the workers. At the suggestion of the women's committee of the Socialist League the domestic workera have decided to form a union. One of the objecta ia to raise wages to Bomething like a living wage, and another ia to Becure a week-day halfholiday for servant girls.
