CRICKET.
— ♦- t—. ... THE TEMUKA CLOB. A general meeting of the Terouka Cricket Club was held' on Monday evening m Mi- E. 0. Dannls .rooms. The vice-president, Mr Luxford, presided, and stated that the first business for consideration was the financial position of the club. The secretary, Mr G. Avmitage, submitted an approximate statement of the position, which showed that taking a fairly favourable view of the prospect of collecting outstanding subscriptions, chiefly those of honorary members, there would be a libility at the end of the season of about £6. This was about the indebtedness the club had started the season with. On the motion of Mr Fergusson, the secretary, Mr Brown and ihe mover were appointed a, sub-committee to collect outstanding' subscriptions. It was agreed to hold an entertainment of some description, and members generally recommended a dance, to wipe off the liability, and Messrs Dann, MeCaskill, Fergusson, Fanthorpe and Brown were appointed a committee to arrange details. The chairman commented upon the position which he hardly anticipated would have occurred/ as the club started with an increased membership, and good prospects of getting through without any appeal to the public. He wished his remarks to be taken m good part, but he considered the expenditure on material had been greater than their position warranted, tie then said that he had the pleasing duty to perform of presenting Mr D. Fergusson with two bats, one given by the president, MrJ. T. M. Hayburst, for the highest average score, 18"6 made m not less than five senior cup matches, and the other given by an old supporter of the game, Mr Boyd Thomson, for the best average m senior or junior cup matches, five matcnes to be played m. Mr Fergussqn suitably acknowledged the presentation. Mr Cecil Brown, the chairman said, was also the winner of a bat. given by Mr 0. Bean, representative of Messrs Wisden and Co., London, for the best bowling average — 34 wickets for 3.14. This was on its way to the colony, and would be handed over 911 arrival. Arrangements were made to wind up the season with a scratch match on Thursday afternoon, and the proceedings terminated with vot«'S of thanks to the chairman and to Mr Dann for the use of his room. A return match was played on Saturday between the Waimataitai and Main Schools. Waimataitai again came off victors, the full totals being Waimataitai 125 (Ziealer42, Williams 27, and Hunt 14), and the Main School 114, (Thompson 61, Bell 8, Livingstone 8). For Waimataitai, Ziesler and C. Lawson bowled w«*U, and for the Main School, Thompson, Bell and Walton did similar service.
