»■ TEMUKA— Tuesday, January 15th. (Before C.A. Wray, Esq., S.M.) A first offender for being drunk was fined 5s and costs. A young man was charged on the information of A. W. Surridge with stealing a groper valued at ss. He admitted taking the fish, but stated that it was the result of a lark. His Worship severely cautioned the accused, and pointed out that he had laid himself open to a conviction as a thief. Under the circumstances, and with the consent of the informant, he would dismiss the information, de fendant to make restitution. He would have to pay 5s for the fish, court costs and costs of one subpoenaed witness 3s '6d. J. Sim v. J. H. Brosnahan, claim 4s balance of a debt of 11s. There was n( appearance of the defendant. His Worship accepting plaintiffs ver sion that the defendant had obtained t receipt by false representation, gave judgment for the amount claimed anc costs. 4t a later hour defendant appeared apologised for delay and applied for t rehearing of the case, claiming that lv had paid m full. The application waf granted. R. McCullough v. E. Mitchell. Evi dence m this ease was taken for trans mission to Dunedin, and the court ad jourued.
