TIMARU WESLEYAN CHURCH.

— ♦ — The quarterly and annual meeting of the office-bearers of the above church, was held on Thursday at the house of Mr J. Jackson. There was a good attendance of members and the superintendent of the circuit, Rev. C. E. Beecroft, occupied the chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been confirmed, the chairman gave a short resume of the doings of the late District Synod at Christchurch, and stated that the Synod had accepted the invitation to hold the next meeting at Timaru. The number of members, on the roll is 150, communicants, 23, on trial 10. The chairman and members spoke very hopefully and gratefully of the good but quiet work that is going on amongst the young people. The balance sheet for the quarter showed receipts to be £102 19s 7d, expenditure, £97 19s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £5. Much gratification was expressed at the result of "Gift Sunday," nearly £190 being collected. It was decided that the collection on February 10th be for Foreign Missions.A hopeful discussion took place on the approaehingmissionoftheßev.T.Cookwho is expected m March, the chairman bespeaking the hearty and active sympathy aud co-operation of members to make the mission a success. Mr C. Vogeler reported that the Sunday school was m a flourishing condition, but that there was, need of bettex supervision, great difficulty being experienced m obtaining a suitable superintendent. More room would also be required for teaching, as the classes are getting too large and crowded. The chairman nominated Messrs J. Jackson and E. Holdgate as Circuit Stewards, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to those gentlemen for their untiring work. Mr F. Smith was elected Society Steward m conjunction with the present one. Messrs J. Kadeliffe and T. Wagstaff were appointed Poor Stewards. Hearty votes oi thanks were accorded to the retiring stewards, also to Mr E. Goldsmith and Mr J. Bird, the latter, gentleman receiving a graceful eulogy for the manner m whicn he performed his duties as chapel keeper, and the opinion was expressed that no one performing similar duties, could excel him m the colony, as during the 16 years or so he has had charge of the doors, not one complaint had been made, pi'oving that he is the " right man m the right place." Messrs Ohivers and liapsey were appointed stewards at Pareora; Mr H. Wake at Fairview, Mrs Sadler at Adair, Mr Armstrong at Claremont, and Mr W. Ellis at Kingsdown. The election of delegates for next annual conference resulted m Messrs J. Jackson and E. Holdgate being appointed.
