The half-yearly meeting of the Friendly Societies Dispensary delegates, was. held last evening. Present— Messrs A. Mills (chairman), Munro, Dorm, Cockran, Rothwell, Henderson, Butt, Bennett, Prosser, Pratt, and Vogeler. An apology was received from Mr Harris. , The chairman stated that they had mot to consider the half-yearly balance sheet presented by the secretary and duly audited. The balance sheet was read and showed that the fees received from lodges were £205 13s 6d ; cash sales,, £329 9s Id.- The expenditure had been— drugs stock, £255 ,Bs.. V 3d; rent and other various items amounted to £66 14s 6dj and salaries to £95 Is Id ; the balance m bank being £12 ss. In assets the stock list shows the value to be £602 11s 7d ; book debts, £63 6s lOd ; stationery and other items bring up the assets to a total of £802 13s Bd. The profit and loss account shows a credit balance of £68, which must m the depressed state of financial affairs generally, be considered most satisfactory. The reports of the auditors and dispenser were read, discussed, and duly adopted. Mr Cockran moved that it be a recommendation to the new board that the manager be instructed that the expense of a charwoman should not be paid by the Board as it is against the rules. - Tlriß was seconded by Mr Rothwell and carried. Mr Bennett moved and Mr Prosser seconded that the balance-sheet and auditors' report, with the exception of that part referring to giving no credit, be adopted. • This was carried. It was recommended that consideration of an increase m the auditors' fet>s be referred to the new board ; that 250 copies of the balance sheet be procured.'' Mr Dorm proposed that a very hearty, vote of thanks be passed to the chairman! for the very able manner m which he had conducted their business for the last 12 months. : The motion was seconded by Mr Butt, ! and carried with acclamation. i The chairman, m returning thanks, 4 said that his whole aim during the time he sat on the board, was to endeavour to economise m every manner possible, so as to return half-yearly a portion of the money advanced by the lodges. This would enable them to reduce the contributions which, the members paid. These were unfortunately rather high. The two last terms were not so successful m regard to dispensary business as they might wish, so that they could not unfortunately refund any money for the last 12 months. Although he was not re-elected it was not for disapproval of his conduct on the present Board, but on the night of the election there were only 13 members present, so that this did not show how the majority of the Oddfellows would have voted. The chairman then thanked the members for the courteous and agreeable manner m which they had helped to conduct the business of the Board. A vote of thanks was also given to the secretary, dispenser, and finance committee. Suitable replies having been made the meeting terminated.
