He mentioned that in his time Mr Hart was looked upon as one of the ablest lawyers in New Zealand. Dr Newman, who also spoke, pointed out that Mr Hart was the last link that bound the firat Parliament in 1854 and this Parliament, and one of his last acts was to rise from his siok bed to vote for the enfranchisement of women. It would also be interesting to members to know that one of the first measures he identified himtelf with was a Bill affeotinjt the Bank of Sew Zealand, with the view of improving the then state of banking in the colony.
