Tlie entire block of buildings occu pied by loading commercial men in the towr was destroyed, with a valuable stock. Thi origin of tho firo is o myetery. It started ii Mark and Company's atore, and spread towardi tho beach, The Poet Office, Custom-house and bonded stores narrowly escaped. H Marks and Oo are tho heaviest losers, Ihei: losses outside the insurance being £13,600 Stuart's Suva hotel was destroyed, Jobi £25,000 ; Brodzig nnd Company's, Joes i £2900, and othora ara considerable losers Insurance totals are Hamburg and Magdeburg £1400 ; New Zoalund, £i525 ; Imperial, £820 Northern, £1000.
