LICENSING MATTERS.
■ ■ 3 ACTION .FOR DAMAGES. I (Br Telegbaph.) CHEI3TCHUECH, June 13. It ia stated that it is the intention of the applicants whoso licenses were refused by the Sydenham licensing bench to bring separate actions in the Supreme Court against individual members of the committee, with the object of recovering damages for loss sustained by reason of such refusal, the ground of action being that the circumstances attending their election and administration of the Licensing Act prove the committee did not bring an impartial or judicial mind to bear on the question, but were actuated by bias, prejudice, and prohibition considerations. Experts estimate the depreciation in the value of properties affected at oloae on £10,000.. DUNEDIN, Jottk 13. she Licensing Committee confirmed the refusal of licenses to the Stafford, West Coast, and North Dunodin hotels. INVEBOABaiLL, Jtjhe 23. The Wairio Licensing Committee granted a new license in face of the option poll declaring against increase. The reason given for disregarding the vote ia that the polling places were limited to one fo' tho whole district, which comprises three ridings, and that consequently the majority of the ratepayers were presented from voting. Iho committee contend that the poll was not a true expression of the opinion of the reoidenta. Complication!
are likely to arue.
