Mr FitzGkrald, Controller and AuditorGeneral, reports thut it is quite impossible any longer to carry on the work which is imposed on tha audit without an increase of staff Mr Webb had informod him that the business of the Inouranos and Truat Offices had increased to such an ex'ent that ono inspeotor cannot give sufficient time to tho duties of each office, and tho inspection required by law of Government Office, boroughs and oounties and othor looal bodies, accounts cannot be done with only eight inspectors Delay was frequently occurring, and as dissatisfaction thuß aroßO it was necessary to have an extra travelling inspector. Iho audit of land rovenue bag fallen fourteen months into arioar, and there ia no prospect of overtaking it with the pre?cnt staff. Mr FitzGerald therefore asks for tho appointment of two additionsl e'erks, gravely adding the alternative, l; or that Government will ba pleasod to ind-'cate to mo which branch of the audit is to bo abandonod."
