(By Telegraph. ) WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. Mr Hislop's resignation will probably take effect from January Ist. Tho Premier left for New Plymouth tbia morning on private business. He will be away about a week. No stepß have yet been taken re the Federal Convention. At present it seems as though New Zealand will not be represented. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 6. The Minister of Lands, accompanied by Mr Samuel and Mr Smitb, M.H.il's, have gone to Urenui to inspect tho spot where coal is said to have been discovered. The Invercargill petition re the Legislative Council has been forwarded to tho Governor. It bears ovsr a thousand signatures.
