A YOUNG GIRL BANGS HERSELF.
A young girl named Emily Mary Hudson, aged eighteen yours, committed suicide by hanging hcreolf at Wark worth recently. Tlio deceased, who was the daughter of Jlr Marshal Hudson, of Kaukapakapa, was on a visit to her grand-parenta, Mr and Mrs T. Chaplin, at Warkworth. Mr Chaplin left his house on Saturday morning, saying that ho was going to "the post office, and would return m an hour. During lub abionce Miss Hudeon spoke to Mrs Chapin, who is an invalid, about tho preparation of dinner, and set about the various household duties, but after some timo had elapsed, as the girl did not return as was oxpected, Mrs Ohaplin went out to look for her, and as she could not find her she informed Mr Chaplin when lie came baok after an absence of an hour and a half. A furtbvr search was tbon made, when the girl was found hanging by a ropo from a lie, or beam, m tho room of & lumber-house, or wash-house, at tho back of the house. The body was at onco cut down, but it was seen that life was extinct, and Dr Carolan, who was sent for, could but conGrm this view. A noto m the deceased's handwriting, addressed to her mother, Mro Hudson, Kaukapakapu.was found on a bench nearwhero the body was found. Thia letter was as follows : — " My dear fathor and mother, I am mad. You have been kind parents to me. Life is very hard to bear. lam going to die. Do not blame any person. I know Jesua loves ruo. lam not afraid to die ; I will go to him. Wo will all meet m Heaven." The occurrence was reported to Constable Haddock. An inquest on tho remains was held at Mr Chaplin's house on Saturday afternoon before Mr M. Angrove, coroner, when a verdict was returned to the effect that deceased committed suicide whilst m an unsound Blate of mind. From tho circumstances there seems littlo doubt that tho young girl Buffered from religious mania. — Auckland Herald.
