THE NEW PLYMOUTH MURDER.

Sergeant Dutliu flatly contradicted the evidenco of tho witness Maher, who gave eridooco m favour of the prisoner, to tho effect that he (witness) saw decoased alive between lpm. and 2 p.m. on the 11th April. The theory of tho prosecution is that Malonoy was murdered between II a m. and 12 a m. Prisoner's counsel, it is expected, will set up an alibi, roljing upon the evidence that Maloney was seen alivo at 2 p.m. Under cross-oiauiination, Sergeant Dufßn slated that he did not search HaWney's house the day that tho body was found ; nor did he do so for tno days afterwords. A man named Curiicll had chargo of the house On bohalf of the police, Darby ChifFoy was recalled, rind stated that he made an inventory of tho articles m deceased's house, and garo it to Sergeant Dufiin on Saturday, the day the body was found. Harriet Ward, a dressmaker, deposed that on ths 11th April sho saw tho deceased olive at 1 p.m. m Currio Street. She saw him as sho was returning from her dinner to tho shop.
