Tho operations of tbo I Postal Department haa been rapidly expanding of lalo— tho avpragg mimhor of letters postod tp oaoh person during the Inst year was forty-fivo, tho number of lettem and postcards that passed through tho offices was 45,700,776, the numbor of packotß 9,090,362, of newspapers 21,702,87G, of telegrams 3,044,658, of telephono calls (which must be regarded as communicnlions) 8,112,000, of Savings Bank trnnsaotions 807,096, of monoy orders issued 473,436, nnd of postal notes issuod 256,429. Theso numbers givo the enormous total of 88,687,683.
