FOOTBALL.
♦ ENGLISH TEAM V. NEW SOOTH WALES. (Pbr Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) JPbr Press Association.] (Received 7 p.m., Juno 3rd.) Sydney, June 2. The first match which the English football team havo played m Australia took place to-day against 15 of New South Wales. The weather was all that could be desired, and 10,000 people were present including the Governor and party. The English team played a capital game, and had the best of the play throughout. The passing of the local team was very weak, and tho forwards were slow m following the ball. In the first spell Eagle 3, Seddon, Bumby and Stoddart secured tries, only one of which was converted into a goal by Anderton. In the second spell Haalam and Bumby were successful m crossing their opponents' goal line, and from one of the tries Paul kicked a goal. Halea of the local men made a brilliant run during the latter part of the spell, and passing tho opponents' backs secured the only try for New South Wales. The kick at goal was a failure. Scoring was un3er the old rules. The Englishmen thus won by 18 points to 2.
