THE CABLE RATES.
(By Telegraph.) Auckland, Nov. .'!. The Committee of the Chamber of Commerco havo been in communication with Sir Julius Vogel to-day regarding the cable rates. The committee received a reply to tho effect that Government aro unwilling, under all the circumstances, to give a subsidy: at tho same time it is felt by the Chamber that the excessive rates now imposed will prove a serious burden on the commercial community. While it is presumed that Government have strong reasons for refusing the concession offered by the company, they have been urged to bring the- matters in dispute to a speedy settlement.
