The South Canterbury Hospital Board i applied for the contribution to the Tinman
t Hospital by the council for the sis munt! a 3 ending March 3131,51887. 3 Advices were received from tho ■t Tro.isnry that £75 had been remitted to i l)-.o credit of tho borough as payment of half cost of works done m the borough a3 > a me;in3 of employment for tho unem--1 ployed. i From tho Premier's office, with regu- . lutions under tho Hospitals and Charitable 3 Institutions Act 1885 Amendment 188 G. 1 Mr E. D. Saunders wrote enquiring if the house on the section leased to the \ late Mr Thomas Shearer, and afterwards 1 transferred to Mr 3 Collett, was insured ; i did the Borough Council hold tho m,- , snrance policy if the house wa3 insured ; - and if not, why not ? ) REPORTS. i The Inspector of Nuisances reported i tho Borough to bein a good sanitary atato; ; that several complaints had been made , of cattle treapataing on the streets, and ; causing damage to fences and gardens ; i that steps were being taken to abate tho ; nuisance caused by gorae hedges m the i Boron gb. i The Engineer reported on the improve- ■ monts that were being carried out m Harris street. MISCELLANEOUS. i The Clerk was instructed to advertise tho Council's intention of striking a, rate . of la m them £ in accordance with tho i terms of the Eating Act. i It was resolved that the matter of i Mr Collet's lease as mentioned m Mr Sannders* letter be referred to the Reserves Committee; to subsidize the Library by the sum of £20 ; to ask Mr S. W. Goldsmith to allow the Council to nominate him as the council's candidate on the Timaru High School Board ; and that steps be taken to enforco the payment of sums due to tho council by ratepayers against whom judgments had been obtained m the Resident Magistrate's court. Mr G. R. Freeman was authorised to engage the assistance of his son m performing the duties of poundkeeper. The meeting then terminated.
