. « The ordinary monthly meeting of the Timaru School Committee wa3 held m the Board Room, Main School, last evening, when there were preßent — Messrs J. Hill (chairman,), Sims, Jones, Mills, Mcllroy, Rowley and Ingram. Tho head master's report was read and considered satisfactory. He reported that the roll number at tho Main School for tho past month was— Boys, 480 ; girls, 459- total, 930 ; strict average attendance —boys, 411 ; girls, 371 ; total, 752 ; highest attendance— boys, 431 ; girls, 403: total 834. He asked for instructions ns to whether tho committco would hold a concert about Christmas time m aid of tho school funds so that tho teachers might inaka arrangements. It was decided on tho motion of Mr Mcllroy,sconded by Mr A. Mills — "That the headmaster and teachers bo requested to get up a concert about tho timo the school breaks up, on or about tho 22nd December, and submit a programme to the committee as soon as possible" The chairman spoko about a window broken at the sido school by some boys. Tho matter had been placed m tho hands of tho police, but ho had heard nothing more about it. Mr A. Mr Mills further stated that tho headmistress had reported to him .that fifteen ink pots wore missing, and from what he had heard he understood they were at the late jauitrix's house, broken. The janitor askod the committee to supply him with two now hair brooms, and some firing. — Granted. A letter wa3 received from tho mistress at tho Sido School, complaining of the state of the girls' closets. The chairman submitted a statement of the cost of the repairs necessary at tho Side School. Mr H. Simmons wa3 authorised to carry out the repairs a3 per his estimate. A letter was recoived from Mr Georgo Ennis asking permission to graze his two horses m tho main school grounds during certain hours, at a reasonable chargo, he guaranteeing to make good any damago they might do. — Granted under certain conditions, and it was understood that if an application was received m respect to the sido school it would receivo favourable consideration, nnd m the event of the latter grounds being let it was decided that tho poundkeoper bo notified to that effect. Messrs Rowley and Ingram were appointed visitors to the main school for tho onsuing month, and Mr Jones for tho sido school.
