The Government geologist reports that gold is distributed generally over the field. The Waihora departed for Auckland, and the Wakatipu sailed this evening for Wellington. NO CONFIDENCE. Public meetings are being held throughout the colony opposing the present Government. Hundreds of men are leaving the agricultural districts and provincial towns for the Waukaringa goldfields. COMMERCIAL. Melbourne, Oct. 21. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held their usual •weekly sate to-day before a large attendance of buyers, fairly rppresentative. The catalogue submitted comprised 2800 bales, of which all but 300 were Bold at very satisfactory prices. AH good wools elicited spirited competition, and prices were firmly maintained ; faulty and inferior lots were slightly depressed ; greasy realised up to Hid, and scoured up to Is 7d.
