AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

To the Chairman, Arowhcuua lown lioard. Belcrring to your letters of the 2Gtlt ult, and 11th inst., I beg to enclose herewith statement showing land fold for cash m the Town of Arowhenua. I hare been unable to soud it sooner, as thero i? a great press of Government work to attend to at present, tipnvt from which the return itself lias takmi some time to prepare as it goes hack to 1885, when the Provincial Government received payment for tho hind. I cannot see of what use tho return is except to show ut what prire tho land was originally fold ; it is only one third of the proceed* 'of the sales of deferred payment settlement laud, which is payable- to the Eoad Board within which the settlement is. Tho amount received for deferred payment laud alters from day to dny, but a proper account is kept nnd one third is credited to the local body entitled to it. £6 10s 2d is the only amount that has been paid out of a special vote to the Tomuka Road Board as one of the Canterbury local bodies. There have been no payments made to the said Board on account of deferred payment land situate m tho village settlement of Arovt hernia. . Although a voucher for £394 17s lid m favour of yow Board, being one-third of the proceeds of land sold m the Arowhenua Village Settlement to 316t July last, has been prepared for transmission to Wellington m ttnns of Section 39, Special Powoi'S and Contracts Act, 1880, whioh Bum represents the total amount duo under Clause 127, Land Act 1 1885, up to thu time of the constitution of

The majority, however, averaged about £12 to £15. A letter from tho samo office was also received re maps. The Chief Surveyor informed the Board that a largo map showing sections sold, rcsorre?, &c, would cost £10 10s. A smaller map, £5 6s ; and a coloured lithgraph, £2. The question of the map was held over for further discussion. With respect to tho sections sold nnd reserved, the Chairman asked that some of the members should attend with him on Monday to interview Mr Talbot. Mr Edgeler wns appointed to accompany the Chairman. With regard to the last paragraph of the letter re reset ves, the Chaii-Tiaii referred to S'.ction 3S B. of the Special Powers nnd Contracts Act, which gave tho Colonial Treasurer power, by warrant, to pay over such monies. The maltor wca held over. On the motion of Xiv Pi-oudloek. seconded by Mr Austin, the Chairman and Air Edgeler were appointed a deputation to wait upon the Road Board at their meeting on Tuesday. Tim meeting was then adjourned until Thursday next, tho Board resolving itself into Committee, to discuss the question of tho Reserves.
