LOSS OF THE KETCH JANET.
♦ (By Telegraph.) Chbibtchuboh, Oct. 4. The ketch Janet, owned by Mr John Sims, of Kaiapoi, bound from Waitapu to Kaiapoi, with a cargo o£ timber, struck on. Capo Campbell reef on Saturday night, and went down ten minutes afterwards. All the hands got eafely into the boat, and wero picked up by the e.s. Hauraki. There iB no insuranco either on the boat or cargo. Wellington, Oct. 4. The ketch Janet from Waitapu to Lyttelton, with timber, was wrecked at Capo Campbell on Saturday nigbt. Sho left Waitapu on Thursday, and ran under Capo Campbell on Saturday for shelter. It being a lnzy night the look-out mistook the dislonco from the light, and tho ketch ran on the reef at 7.30 p.m. The Tessel filled and turned over m ten minutes. The crew took to tho boat, and landed at 8.30 a.m. the next morning. They hoisted signals of distress, which were observed by the steamer Hauraki, bound from Lyltelton to Wellington, and the crow were brought on here. The Janet ' belongs to Mr J. Sims, of Kaiapoi, and it is not known whether she is insured.
