VITAL STATISTICS.

The following are the vital statistics of j the colony for August, 188(5 : —

1 The deaths of persons not resident of boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded m all cases, excluding Greymouth, for which town statistics are now published for tho first time. The total births m the above boroughs amount to 508 against 515 m July, a decrease of 7. lhe deaths m August wore 200, an increase of 9 on tho number for July. Of the total deaths males contributed 105,'fomales 103. Seventyfour of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 35.58 per cent of the 'whole, number ; 39 of these were children under one year of age.
