The Commission of the Stark purchase havo full powora to enquire into every particular of the transaction, and are allowed the widest scope m investigating the allegations which have been made of conspiracy. On 31st May last tho approximate number ot sheep m New Zealand was 15,200,000, being an increase of 654,000 on the previous year. In Otago the number of Bheep has increased during tho year from 3,800,000 to 3,957,000. The Gazelle published to-night contains a scale of fares, rates and charges for New Zealand railways, to come into force on October 4th. " Accidental death " was the vordicb returned at the inquest on tho child killed by a brewer's cart. An attempt made to obtain a conviction against a boarding-house keeper at Ncnthorn, for sly grog selling, failed, as the witnesses would not testify to having over seen money pass. Mr J.
