WAIMATE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.

A meeting of the members of this corps was held m the drill shed on Monday evening lost to consider the balance-sheet of the retiring committee of management and to elect a new committee. Captain Studholmo presided, and there were present — Lieutenants Neileon and Capstick, Col.«Bergt. Forsbrook and forty-one members of the corps. The balance-sheet for year ended June 30th, 1 1886, was read, showing the total receipts to be £170 13s 3d ; expenditure, £154 10s ; and balance to credit, £16 3s 3d. The items of income and expenditure were high m consequence of this being the first year of the existence of the corps. The financial position, as disclosed by the balance-sheet, was considered highly satisfactory. The statement was adopted, and a rote of thanks to the retiring members of the committee, and also to the ex officio members — captain and two lieutenants — for their efficient and economical management, was passed. Captain Studholme said that the efficiency and progress made was, upon tho whole, satisfactory, but at the samo time it was necessary that a number of th« men should be more regular m their attendance at drill. The backwardness of those who did not attend regularly acted as a check on tho progress of those who were present at every drill and parade. He then called on tho members present to elect, by ballot, a committee of five to manage the affairs of the corps during the next year, m conjunction with the three officers, who hold their seats as ex officio members. About twelvo were nominated, but of those all but six declined to stand for election. On tho ballot being taken it was found that Sergeant Forsbrook, Bugler Harding, Privates Hutton, Sanders and Grant were elected. It was resolved that the first anniversary be celebrated at a date to be fixed by the committee ; Mr George Clayton, Mr H, Gascoyne, and Sergeant Forsbrook making liberal offers towards tho carrying out of the proposod celebration. A discussion arose as to dancing and introduction of intoxicants on the occasion, tho numbers for and against being nearly equal. It was resolved that the committee arrange for date of the event and details. The proceedings were closet! by the meeting singing tho National Anthem.
