THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
(By Telegraph.) CHEiSTcnuECH, July 16. Today Mr C. O. Bowen received a telegram giving definite information that the first contract for the Midland Railway had been let, the contractors being Messrs McKeono and Robinson. The section taken up is most probably that from Beefton to Brunnerton. This is inferred from previous communications received by Mr Bowen. The exact amount of tho contract is not stated. It is said that Messrs McKeone and Robinson, the contractors mentioned above, are both practical engineers of good standing m their profession and well known m engineering circles m London. Their firm, having offices m Westminster Chambers, London, is a well established and thoroughly reliable one, and has been engaged during the past ten or twelve years m the construction of railways m Inland, Sweden, and Norway, and m various workß on the English lines.
