THE AUCKLAND AMMUNITION.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, May 7. Since tho trial ot Wanganui the Auckland ammunition has beon much improved. A ! quantity of English Government oven grained 1 rifle powdor haa arrived, with which tbe cartridges aro now filled. The cases have been altered for tho better and are now Bolid, strong articles, which the defence office consider superior to tho usual English make imported for ordinary use. The bullets ara of tho proper size, and the othor defects havo been remedied. Experiments have boen going on hero for several days, and the result is considered eminently satisfactory. Two men fired the 200 yards range, ihe weapons being loaded bohind their backs. The Bcores were — Points. p Woolwich ammunition ... 37 > Auckland ammunition... ... 36 - To-day Bhooting has been going on at ■ longer ranges with equally good results. Tho » colonially mado cartridges can bo ÜBed more than once, as they stand the strain with case.
