THE DUNEDIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND THE CUSTOMS DEPARTMENT.
♦ [By Telegraph.] Dunedin, April 15. The Committee of the Chamber of Commerce have resolved to call tho attention of the Commissioner of Customs to the fact of certain goods having been cleared from the Customs and removed from bonded warehouses while warrants representing such goods were m circulation, thus destroying the confidence m bond-warrants and hampering commercial transactions. Tho committee of the Chamber of Commerce suggest the following plans : — (1) That the bond warrants be examined and compared with the warehouse books kept at tho Custom-house. (2) That there be printed on the face of the warrants a certiScato to tho effect that they have been examined and compared with tho warehouso book at the Custom-house, and are m accordance with tho entries thorein relating to tho goods mentioned m the warrant, such certificate to be signed by tho landing surveyor or impressed with the stamp of H.M. Customs. (3) That the worrants'.bo attached to the entries when tho goods are being cleared, and retained and cancelled by tho Customs authorities.
