THE EAST AND WEST COAST RAIL WAY.
♦— [By Telegraph.] Wellingtok, April 15. The Colonial Treasurer has received a telegram from the Agent-General to the effect that ho has been informed that a quarter of a million having been subscribed a syndicate is now ready to take up the contract for tho construction of the Bast and West Coast railway. For some Says past tho syndicate have been discussing various matters with Sir Dillon Bell and have now intimated they would obtain specific subscriptions and then state if they were willing to proceed. It appears that satisfied with the amount raised as a preliminary subscription they have intimated their willingness to accept the business. The syndicate, comprises very wealthy and powerful men. The conditions have been nltered in some slight particulars, but the main points remain the Bame as in the original contract. The exact alterations ore not yet known hore. ; CnmsTcnußCH, April 15. Tho news of tho formation of the West Coast Railway by a syndicate was received with great satisfaction here, the members of the Eailway Loague and the guarantors of the Homo delegates' costs being naturally very jubilant.
