The Zaunceston Examiner gives some interesting figures regarding tho Mount Bischoff tin mine. Tho company has just declared tho hundredth dividend of lUs. per share, making an aggregate sum of £618,000 which lias been thus divided sinco the establishment of the company. It has expended m working account a sum of over £615,000 the plant has Co3t over £77,000, and tho totnl amount paid for dividend tax is £19,125. Since the formation of tho company 23,768 tons of tin ore have been raised. About 4'JO men are constantly employed on tho mine, at an average pay of £1,800 fortnightly, 'l'he smelting works employ 27 men m full work, and when the three furnaces are going their pay amounts to £160 fortnightly.
A great deal of amusing satirical comment has been made by various English papers upon the fact that Mr Gladstone, being unable to attend the last rent audit at Hawarden, sent to his son, Mr W. H. Gladatone, copies of a pamphlet on marketgardening, which he desired might bo handed to any of tho tenantry who felt an interest m the subject. The St. James' Gazette disposes of the incident m four Hne3 of verso, as follows: — "While generous landlords stay their hand, or 'waive their rents when times a-e hardening, Joe (landless) offers tracts of land, and Gladstone tracts on marketgardening ! "
