FAIRLIE CREEK SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

♦ Tho usual monthly meeting of this Committeo was held on the 27th March. Present — Messrs Milne (Chairman), Pye, Binney, Allan, Morris, Wilson and Caßkoy. I The head teacher reported that there were 81 names on the roll, 37 boys and 4-1 girls ; averago for tho month, 59.1. Tho small attendance elicited a warm discussion. It was ultimately carried unanimously tint tho schoolmaster furnish tho Committee with tho names of the pupils who hare attended irregularly for tho past month, and to assist the Committee m getting tho attendance kept up to a fair average. Correspondence was read ns follows : — From the Education Board re vacancy <nused by the retirement of Mr Steward, A1.11.il j from the same requesting to bo furnished with an estimate of tho cost of revnvnishing and distempering tho interior of the olil schoolroom. It was resolved that no action bo taken m coiiDcetion with memo. No. 1. Tho Soerctary was instructed to get the estimate as requested and forward at once, bo that tho business of tho school might not be interfered with longer than noccss-iry. The Chairman said tho work had been hanging on the Committee's hands for something like 1 six weeks The room had been dismantled of maps, etc., and now they were nsked for an estimate of t'lecos'. A very lit IVo more than the cost of procuring the estimate would get the work done. It whs decided to give a half-holiday on Tuesday. 30lh March, and a whole one on Thursday, tho Ist April. The visitor, Mr Binnoy, mentioned a list of repairs needed ; broken windows to be mended, and somo holes (made and left by the contractors for the new additions) to'bc 'filler! up. The school dt'aner was rcque.-tcd to extend his contract for the month of April ; the new Committee to make arrangements for their terms. .Miss Forgujson requested leivo of absence for a few day?, and named a subs'itute.
