GLEN-ITI INSTITUTE.

A largely attended meeting of the residents of Glen-iti was held m tho schoolroom on Friday evening, tho 19th inst., for the purpose of receiving the report of tho Provisional Library Committee, and taking such further steps as wore necessary'*for tho organisation of tho institute. Mr Philp, at the request of the meeting, occupied the chair, and briefly explained the action that had boon taken by tho Provisional Committee, and read communications from tho Board of Education conferring a site for tho building, and from tho Board's architect regarding the same. He thought that row the Uuilding was nearly completed it would bo well to supplant the present Committee with one greater m number and with moro extended '- powers. Mr Rhodes fully concurred m this. Ho thought that a good largo committee would be likely to cause more extended interest's m the institution. Ho had attended that evening to hear and assist any suggestions that might be mado for its ndvaucemonls. Ho was anxious to sco it m a fair way to success previous to his approaching departure for England. Previous to ccting upon these suggestions, and practically assuming tho management of the building, the meeting, considering tho opportunity a fitting one, passed a, most hearty vote of thanks to Mr Rhodes for his liberality and kindness to tho district. A similar voto was also passed to Mr Fyfe for hig kindness m giving the stone used m the building. The following Committee was then unanimously elected for tho purpose of drawing up rules, receiving subscriptions, and the general management of tho Institution : — Messrs Rhodes, McFadgean, J. Page, sen., Lindsay, ■ Philp, J. Page, jun., Hole, Charteris, Fyfo, Pitt, Graham, Bladen, I. Fonscca, senr., R. Fonaeca, jun., E!liot, Tasker, Seuly, Lack, Mclntosh, peren members to form a lfgal meeting. The Committeo elected Mr Philp as its Chairman and Mr Mclntosh as Secretary. It was resolved on tho proposal of Mr Rhodes, seconded by Mr Hole— "That the Chairman and Secretary wait upon tho Secretary of tho Board of Education, and ascertain what steps aro necessary m order thut tho Library may participate m tho vote for public libraries." A sub-Committee was then appointed for the purpose of thoroughly canvassing tho district for funds m aid. After an unanimous resolution, passed on tho motion of Mr Bladen, seconded by Mr Hole — " Jhat Mr Rhodes and Mr Fyfo bo entitled to a lifo membership of tho privileges of tho Institution," tho meeting Btood adjourned till tho evening of Friday, the 27th inst.
