The following items of Mauritius commercial news are taken from Messrs Ireland, Fraser and Co.'s monthly circular to band per Messageries steamer Caledonien : — Mauritius, March 5. — General accounts say the crops are more favorable, the late rama having had a beneficial effect on them. The month's engagements for New Zealand are : — Christchurch, 300 tons. Freights for Australian ports range from 17s to 20a, while to New Zealand 25s is aßked. Exchange to New Zealand, 60 days Bank credits, 18^ per cent ; Australia, 19 per cent. The stock of sugar m hand is 6500 tons, and the season's exports to New Zealand so far total up to 5000 tons. The American ship Paul Jones, 1 205 tons, which left this port on the 17th march, bound for Calcutta m ballast, caught fire m the Straits soon after leaving, and m spite of all efforts to extinguish the flames she was gutted to the water's edge and bad to be abandoned. The crew, wbo took to the boats, were picked up by a passing vessel and brought to Melbourne. | Received 1 a.m., March 22nd.] CRICKET. Adelaide, March 20. The match between the Australian representative team and a Combined Fifteen of Australia was continued to-day. The combined team, who had scored 166 for five wickets on the previous day, continued their innings, and were all disposed of for 245 runs. Being 177 behind-hand, they followed their innings, and on the stumps being drawn had scored 162 runs for the loss of three wickets, Houston placing 55 to his credit.
