OAMARU SUPREME COURT.
(By Telegraph.) ! Oamabit, March 16. The half-yearly sitting of tho Supremo Court openod to-day. There are eight cases on the calendar, including child murder, arson, libel, embezzlement, forgery, etc. The Judge's charge contained nothing special. . Poole, for cruelly ill-treating his efepsoo, and Alfred Lovegrove, for assault with intent, who wero convicted at the last session and sentence reserved for the Appeal Court, came up for sontence. Poole wa3 sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labor, and Lovegrovo to two years' hard labor. In the Supreme Court to-day, F. W. Martin pleaded " Guilty " to embezzlement and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Thomas Hardy pleaded " Guilty " of larceny and was sentenced to three years. John Berry, a Chinaman, for fake pretences, ■was ordered to be imprisoned for one day m: consideration of his having been m gaol three months awaiting his trial, i J. Jonasb, charged with robbery from tho person, was discharged.
