At a meeting of shareholders m the Commercial Bank of South Australia, held yesterday, the report of the Committee of Inspection was adopted. Special auditors were appointed to examine the affairs of the Bank. The report of the Directors stated at the meeting that while the losses of the Bank due the action of the manager and accountant, amounted to three hundred and ■ ten thousand pounds, still there remained a surplus of assets over liabilities amounting to one hundred and eighty thousand pounds. H.M.S. DIAMOND. Hobabt, March 16. H.M.S. Diamond has arrived from Sydney. There are seventeen cases of typhoid fever aboard, consequently she lias been m quarantine. (Received 10.50 p.m., Maroh 16th.) COLONIAL CONFERENCE. Melbourne, March. 16. The New Zealand Government has definitely declined to take part m the projected Conference of Colonial Governments and Premiers, -which is to be convened m- order to discuss the defences of the colonies and other schemes ■of general interest. It is not generally •expected that New South Wales or -South Australia will join m the Conference. (Received 1.10 a.m., Maroh ,17th.) OPENING OF THE VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, March 16. The New Victorian Government opened to-day by Commission, after which the members were sworn m, and Mr Lawlor was nnanimously re-elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives. An adjournment will be made nntil June Ist, m order to enable the Ministers to mature their policy. SHIPPING. The B.M.S. Paramatta arrived this morning. COMMERCIAL. The Local Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, limited, reports on the Melbourne produce market as follows : — Shipping wheat remains steady at 4s 4d per bushel ; malting barley is irregular at Ss 6d to 4s 3d; New Zealand oats, feed sorts, rather firm at 2s 9d to 3s ; for milling description there is a fair demand at 3s to 3s 4d ; New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 3d to 2s 7d; Ryegrass quiet, 4s 3d to 5s 3d; Cocksfoot is rather weaker, being quoted at 5 d to
