DISPUTED LICENSING ELECTIONS.

♦ (By Telegraph.) Wellington, March 10. A petition against the election of Mr Fisher for the To Aro Licensing Committee was dismissed. It was proved he was a shareholder m the United Importers' Company at the late election, but Mr Wardell dismissed the case on the ground that the petition did not satisfy the Act. At the time of the licensing elections it was known that efforts would be made to prevent tho sale of liquor on the Hutt racecourse. The publicans canvassed vigorously, but forgot to enquire m what Licensing District the course was situated. They triumphantly returned their mon for the Hutt District only to Bee five stauiie'i teetotallers elected for the Epuni District, m which the Wellington Racing Club's course lies. Petitions havo now been lodged against the whole of this Committee on various grounds of irregularity, and as it is understood the right to fell drink on the racecourse is m jeopardy, considerable interest is felt m the result.
