Threo men are known to be still m the ! workings. The whole place is now a mass i of smoke. Every effort is being used to , rescue those who are down, but it is feared the exertions will prove fruitless. Sailed, this morning — Manapouri, s.s., for New Zealand. IRooeived 10 p.m., Feb. 15th. | A. further telegram is to hand from Lithgow relative to the outbreak of fire m one of the coal mines near the township. The exertions made to rescue the Mine Manager and two men who were unable to escape resulted m tho recovery of tho manager m an unconscious state, whilo the other two men have been brought up dead, apparently suffocated.
