RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

(By Telegraph.) Wellington, Feb. 8. Another accident occurred on the Welling-ton-Masterton railway on Saturday afternoon. A passenger train was being pushed up the steep incline on the Featherston aide of Rimutata, and had just passed through a tunnel when the gripping apparatus of " the engine gave way and the train began to run down hill. The brakes were applied ar,d fortunately held the train, bringing up m the tunnel. The lady passengers became greatlj excited, several fainting and screaming,, the darknesß adding to their fright. Most of the passengers jumped out, some sustaining slight injuries. If the train had moved after the passengers jumped out some of them would have been crushed to death.
