NEW BARRACKS FOR CHRISTCHURCH.
(BY TELEGKArU.) CiiuiSTOHUiicit, Jan. 30. This afternoon tho Salvationists laid tho foundation of a new barracks m Victoria street, opposite the Supreme Court. The barmcka will be capable of seating 2000 people. Tho ceremony was witnessed by a largo crowd, and was of a rather curious nature. Four stones were laid, each by the donors to the fund, tbo principal one by a Mr Richard Bolton, who contributed £50. It was announced that anyone giung lmlfacrown should be allowed to lay a brick, and several persons availed themselves of the privilege. Tho total donations amounted to j £130.
