The principal uvont was the Tatter Ball's Club Oup which resulted as follows : — Tempe 1, Benbolt 2, Friendship 3. Eleven horses started, and the race was won by a length and a half. The South' Australian revenue returns aive the year's revenue as £1,130,000, being £180,000 below the preceding twelve months, and considerably below the amount estimated by the Treasurer six months ago. Hobart, Jan. 1. The Tasmanian yearly revenue returns are of a very favorable character, the revenue having been well sustained. Melbourne, Jan. 1. The "Victorian quarterly and yearly revenue returns were published to-day. The revenue for the quarter endei Ddcember 31at amounts to £1.670,000, being a decrease of £19,000 C"tnpared with tho corresponding period of last year The falling off is chiefly m receipts for land sales, the railway revenue showing an increase on the same period of £40,000. The total revenue for the twelve months is £G 250.000, being an increase on last year of £60,000. The dt-mands of the laborers not having been acceded to by the masters the men have definitely decided to strike work, rejeotina the proposal for 48 hours' work per week. Altogether 870 men are involved m the strike. The shipowners are taking active steps to replace the men locally and m other colonies, while the Kborers rely on the support of the various trade unions. MS Sala, wife of the well-known journalist, died last ni^ht. The match between the eleven which is about 'o proceed to England and the combined Victorian team was commenced on the Melbourne ground this morning. (Received 1.45 a.m., Jan. 2nd.) The Victorian team won the toss, and decided to go Grst to the tickets. They were all disposed of for 135 runs. The Australian Eleven then went m, and when the stumps were drawn had Focurol 69 runs for the loss of two wic^etn, Sc>tt and Mcll wraith being not out for 26 and 40 respectively. The British P-a muster-General has at length adopted a scheme for the division of postage on Australian letters, aiid tendeis are being invited for the conveyance of mail* Hooi>rdi»>s to the agreement with New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
