WRECK OF THE BARQUE EDWIN BASSETT.
Wellington, Sept. 7. Regarding the fire seen on the beach at West Wanganni Inlet hy passing steamers, the following telegrams were received by the Marine Department this evening: — " Greymouth. — Tho steamer Pelham has signalled from the roadstead that a ship's crew, supposed to bo Knglisli, were on the beach at West Wangazmi.— (Signed) Thos. ' Tuenbull, Harbor Master." " Collingwood : The messenger sent to makeenquiries has returned with the information that the barqno Edwin Bassott was wrecked on Monday last abont four miles south of West Wanganui Inlet. All hands, 12 iv number, were saved. The crow are now on the way to Collingwood. The vessel has broken tip."
