(By Telegraph.) Auckland, Sept. 2. The Lumpers' Union have resolved, that while sympathising with the men m dispute at Lyttelton, they cannot see their way to join m the strike. A file broke out m a hay and corn loft at Crowther's stables, Wellesley street, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Crowther's employees live m the vicinity, and assisted by the" Police and some civilians, speedily got the horsea — 70 m number— loose, and turned them adrift m the streets, when they galloped away for the suburbs. As soon as this was done the cabs, carriages and omnibuses were run out into the streets for safety. The Brigade succeeded m confining the fire to the upper storey and flooring thereof. The whole of this part of the premises was completely gutted, and the stores of horse feed destroyed, rowtber can throw no light on the origin of the fire, as no one had been m the loTt during the evening. The insurances are £300 on the stores and £700 on the building m the National. A semi-detached house m York street, Parnell, occupied by Mrs Greig and owned by McCarthy, took fire yesterday afternoon. The flames were not subdued till the house was completely gutted. A boat accident is reported from Great Barrier Island by which a Maori named Hate and his wife are believed to have been drowned. They were m a boat during Monday's storm.
