POLITICAL NEWS.

(By Telegraph.) (from our own correspondent.) Wellington, August 31. We have had a threo hours' broozo over the relegation of Iho remainder of Major Atkiuson's resolutions to tho bottom of tho Order Puper. It appears that pome of the party were m favor of letting the resolutions go by the board after tbo defeat of number one on Friday night, but the majority prevailed upon Major Atkinson to make a noieo about it. The discussion was pretty lively whilst it lasted, and the Premier came m for some rather ugly knocks, to which, however, he appcura to bo getting quito accustomed. That a breach of faith has been committed seems quito clear to every one, and thcro seemed a determination to postpono the consideration of all other business until this resolution — number two, or tho subject matter of it — had been disposed of. Howover, after three hours' acrimonious debate, tho matter dropped for the present. It 18 understood that there is to be v meeting of Government supporters to-morrow for tho purpose of arranging a programme for tbo remaindor of tho session. Rumor has it that the Government will be asked to drop tho Hast nnd West Coast Railway proposals and tho Native Lands Disposition Bill or their adboronts will no longer give them their support. Tho Premier, however, affects to know nothing of this arrangement, and so he told Major Atkinson to-night, who rather significantly remarked that it often happened that tho Premier know nothing of these matters till they wore all over, and it is generally believed that this meeting is to take place. Ex-Judgo Fenton, of tho Nativo Lands Court, hns been brought down from Auckland m hot hasto by tho opponents of tho Nativo Lands Disposition Bill, with tho object of giving evidences agniust that measure before tho Committeo on Native Affairs. Tho Commission appointed to enquire into the rccont Bcandals m connection with tho Wellington Hospital will comnionco its ] sittings tomorrow. Mr G. F. Richardson will auk to-morrow that Press reporters bo allowed admission to it.
