Sir Peter Scratchley leaves this week for New Guinea, m order to enter upon bis duties as High Commissioner for the protected district m that territory. Arrived, yesterday afternoon — Tarawera, from New Zealand. Melbourne, August 4. The Omnibus driver's strike still continues. They had an interview yesterday with Mr Clapp, Manager of the Company, but without anything definite being done. A large number of applications from all parts of Victoria for space m the Colonial Exhibition, to be held next year m London, are being received by the Victorian Commissioners. (.Received 1.40 a.m., August sth. | Melbourne, August 4. The local Manager of tho National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports on the local markets as follows : — Shipping wheat is quieter at 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; malting barley quiet at 4s to 4s 6d ; New Zealand oats, feed sorts less depressed, at 2s lOd to 2s lid, but not much doing ; milling descriptions steady at 3a to 3s Id, but not m active demand ; New Zealand oats under bond, 2s to 2s 3d. The following additional scratchinga are announced for the Melbourne Cup : Archie, Burrillda, First Demon, Garfield, Gasconade, Hazard, Nepicallina and Lean Year.
