GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, August 4. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. IN COMMITTBB. The Land Transfer Bill was further considered m Committee, and reported with amendments. In Committee on the Administration Amendment Bill, Sir F. Whitaker proposed a new clause providing that tho property of a man dying intestate, leaving a wife but no children, shall at his death bo allotted to his wife absolutely, and this was carried by 22 to 14. The Bill was then reported. JIBST BE&DINGB. The following Bills were read a first time : — Stamp Bill, Deceased Personß Estate Dutios Bill, Mines Bill, Savings Bank Bill, Tuakatoto and Xaitangata Lakes Bill, and Auckland University Reserves Bill. SECOND BEADINdS. Mr Johnston moved the second reading of Wellington Corporation Leaseholds Bill. — Agreed to. Mr Walker moved the second reading of the Timaru Harbor Board Loan Bill. — Agreed to. Dr Menzies moved the second reading of tho Presbyterian Church Presbytery Bpl, which wag referred to the Local Bills Committee. SCHOOL COMMITTBBS BILL. A debate on the motion that the School Committees Election Bill be committed was adjourned, and the Council adjourned at 5 p.m.
