BANKERS AND LAYWERS V. THE CLUB.
Tlio return match Bankers and Lawyers v. the Club was played on the S.O.F.C.'s ground on Baturday afternoon and resulted m a win for the Club by 4 points (2 tries) to 2 points (1 try). Tho former (Colors) were captained by G. Wood, and the latter (Blue) by Lough. Wood started the first spell, and the ball was gradually worked towards tho Blue's goal. A series of scrimmages then took place and Roberts, getting the ball, made a good run, but was collared bofore scoring. After a few minutes' play, Eichbaum, by a dashing run, got m, scoring first blood for the Colors. Roberts took the try, but did not succeed m placing a goal. After the kick out somo smart play was shown on both sides, but the Colors again worked the ball down. Here Roberts tried a pot at goal, but a force-down only resulted. This roused up the Blueß, and Reid, by a dashing run, took the leather well up the ground. A lot of loose scrimmages ensued near the Colors 25. Lough, Reid, and McGuinness tried hard to get over the line, but were prevented by the efforts of Goodall, Strode, and Roberts. The Blues made a fine dribbling rusb, and [Bean secured a touchdown for his side. The try was given to the same player, but he was unable to place a goal. After the kick-out the Blues again took the ball back to the Colors' quarters and had a chance of scoring, but a forward kicking too hard a force-down was the only result. The Colors ngain kicked out, and scrimmages m the centre of the ground followed until half time. Lough started the second spell, and for some time the gamo was very even, Reid and Wood making good runs for their sides. Tho Blues by a good rush took the ball over the Colors' line, but the smartness of tho latter's backs prevented a try being obtained. Wood kicked out, and the Colors following up well, penned tho Blues m their 25. Each side now worked their hardest. Scrimmages were then the order, from one of which Wood secured the ball and made a bold dash, but unfortunately fell. The Blues, by some neat play, then removed the game to safer quarters. A lot of loose play was indulged m about the centre of the ground till Lough, making a good run, placed tho leather m touch near the Colors' goal line. From the throw out Watkins secured the ball, and getting over the line, placed the second touch-down to the Blues' credit. Bean again took the try, but failed to score. The ball being kicked off some good play followed, m which Wood, Haines, Goodall, McGuinness, Wake, and Reid, showed up well. Time was shortly afterwards called. For the victors Reid, McGuinness, Cole, Lough, Laurenson, Wake, and Bean, did good work, and for the colors Hnines, Mackay, Hughes, Wood, Roberts, and Strode, were all there during tho game. Messrs Clark and Cramond acted na umpires, and gave every satisfaction.
