GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
(By Tblegkai-u.) Wellington, July 23. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Tho Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. REPLIES TO QUESTIONS. In answer to Captain Fraser, as to whether it was truo that a number of railway passes wore being issued to pass a person over the railways in Australia, the Hon. the Colonial Secretary said inquiries wero being made into tho matter. In reply to Mr Reynolds, tho Hon. the Colonial Secretary snid the Government Printing annual report would be presented next week. Replying to Mr Wilson, tlio Hon. the Colonial Secretary said it was the intention of Government to introduce a, Bill to amend tho Public Trustees Act. MISCELLANEOUS. Various returns wero ordered to be printed, and Mr Walker was grunted a week's leave of absence on urgent private affairs. CRIMINAL CODE BILL. Mr Brandon moved thnt tho Criminal Code Bill be referred back to the Statutes Revision Commission. This was negatived on a division by 19 to 18, and the Bill wns ordered to bo committed presently. MIST HEADINGS. The Wellington Corporation Leaseholds Bill, Otago Harbor Leasing Bill, Dunedin Southern Market Reserves Leasing Bill, Invorcargill Loans Consolidation Bill, Rating Bill, Impounding Bill, Evidence Bill, and Seamen's Representation Bill were read a first time. BILLS ADVANCED. The Gmuing and Lotteries Bill was read a third time and passed. The Criminal Code Bill wns considered in Committee, and reported with amendments. The Industrial Schools Bill and West Const Settlement Reserves Bill wore read a third timo and passed. Tlie Timaru Harbor Board Loan Bill and Imprest Supply Bill (No. 72) were read n first time, and tho latter was also passed. ADJOURNMENT. Tho Council adjourned at 4 .40 p.m.
