The barque Norman Macleod was putting out her coinent and taking m grain at the wharf on Saturday, Tho Union Company's s.s. Wanaka arrived from tho South on Saturday with a cargo of general merchandise, and sailed m the evening with produce for Nelson and way ports. The date of the sailing of tho Union Company's s.s. Wakatipu has been postponed till Thursday. The port of Oamaru (says the Oamaru Mail) since the erection of tho new wharf and berthage accommodation has been provided for large ocean-going vessels, is rapidly becoming of great importance, and wo do not hesitate m saying that before long it will rank among the principal ports m the colony. The following will ahow that a considerable increase occurred m the shipping trade last month : — During the month of April 35 vessels, with an united tonnage of 11,315 tons, were entered inwards at this port, and for the same period a similar number of vessels, with a total tonnage of 11,084, cleared from it.
