SIGNALLING VESSELS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMAIIU HEHAID. Sic, — Would you mind my throwing oat a suggestion, through tho medium of your columns, to the Timaru Harbor Board. It is that notice of the approach of vossels should be signalled from the present flagstaff, hear the lighthouse. Wo hare a lighthouse keeper, m. the person of Captain Meredith, who resides on the section, and I hare little doubt, for the sake of a 6inallincrcased salary he would undertake tho duty of signalman as well. The Harbor Master also lives m clcme proximity. I am sure that if the Harbor Board were to fall m with this suggestion they would not only confer an immense benefit on the owners of rossels and merchants, but would be heartily thanked by the public generally. I with others do not think a bettor site for a signalling station could be found. I understand that Timaru is about the only port of any note m the oolony which does not possess a regular signalman. I am, &c., Whabp Eat.
